In June we took a short weekend and visited Greenwich, London, to celebrate birthdays and spend some time with some great friends, by drinking tea, treasure hunting, and exploring Greenwich.

Tea at the Fan Museum

We were looking for a great spot for afternoon tea with our kids, and after the sticker shock of some of the more traditional options (a children’s afternoon tea for £40 per person at Claridge’s?!) we found a fun and affordable choice at The Orangery inside the Fan Museum, right in Greenwich – double win. It was perfect for our large group of kids and grown ups, and the clotted cream and scones were incredible.

Greenwich Market

We spent a bunch of time shopping (and eating ice cream) at the Greenwich Market. A great spot, and we all enjoyed shopping and snacking.

Treasure Hunting on the Thames

One of our favorite activities in London is exploring the banks of the Thames at low tide. You can find pottery pieces, glass, and all sorts of cool stuff.

Hitting the low tide at sunset only added to the experience. IMG_1242JQOZ6167P1190447 (2)We took a long walk through Greenwich Park to see the Prime Meridian, demarcating the earth’s western and eastern hemispheres. We also explored the Royal Observatory, and mostly just let the kids run up and down the hills and enjoy the day.
